Seeking MSP guarantee, farmers gherao Bathinda DC’s residence

On a nationwide call given by the SKM to observe the ‘MSP Guarantee Week’, scores of farmers from various unions protested in front of the DAC in Bathinda on Saturday.

The farmers demanded legal guarantee on MSP along with compensation for the low wheat yield witnessed during the ongoing season owing to early rise in temperature.

The protesters, including women and labourers, raised slogans against the Centre and state and gheraoed the DC’s residence and submitted a memorandum to the PM.

Shingara Singh Mann, state general secretary, BKU Ekta Ugrahan, said, “We have demanded from the Centre that it must provide the MSP to farmers as per the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission and the Ramesh Chandar Committee reports.” —
