Security of Jathedar being reviewed: DGP
Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, Gaurav Yadav on Monday said the security of Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh was being reviewed after he flagged concerns over getting security threats.
The DGP said this on the sidelines of the 65th state-level Police Commemoration Day function at the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) headquarters here on Monday after paying tribute to the brave police personnel, who sacrificed their lives fighting militants and criminals.
He said once the department got a formal complaint from the Jathedar on security threats being received by his family members and even over the abduction of his daughter, a thorough investigation would be conducted and the accused taken to task.
On the issue of extortion calls being received by businessmen, he said, “As many as 80 per cent of the callers were local criminals. They were simply throwing the names of gangsters. The victims need not get scared. I appeal to every victim to share with us the details of the callers. They should not refrain from contacting the police.”
