Nearly 100 cops carried out an extensive search operation on the local sub-jail premises in the wee hours of Tuesday to prevent any unlawful activity that could potentially disrupt peace and tranquillity of the region ahead of Diwali.

Though the team led by DSP (Special) Ranjit Singh Bains did not find or observe anything objectionable during the operation conducted under supervision of SSP Gagan Ajit Singh, senior functionaries at the jail were asked to update the district police in case anything unusual happens in or around the prison.

The massive search operation involved a thorough combing of the prison premises, including checking of five barracks and the kitchen area where over 250 inmates were frisked. The focus was on recovering narcotics and illegal gadgets, including mobile phones, if any, besides spotting any factionalism among the inmates.
