Scrap competency progamme, teachers’ assn urges AAP govt
A large number of teaching staff under the banner of Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF) today staged a protest at the office of District Education Officer (Secondary) in Sangrur.
They were protesting against implementation of the Competency Enhancement programme (CEP), the raids being conducted in schools and alleged “rude behaviour” of the authorities towards the teachers.
The protesters urged the Punjab Government to scrap the CEP and pay proper attention towards the studies of the students. They also asked the state government not to implement the New Education Policy and should instead prepare its own curriculum for all classes.
They urged the government to give only teaching work to the teachers and withdraw all non-teaching works.
Raghbir Singh Bhawanigarh, vice-president, DTF, said instead of teaching syllabus, teachers had been performing duties to prepare the students for a test to be held in December across the country.
He said the teachers had already been performing various non-teaching works, including election duties.
He added that the Education Department had been harassing the teachers on one pretext or the other.
