The Supreme Court on Monday directed the secretary to the President to place death row convict Balwant Singh Rajoana's mercy petition in the Beant Singh assassination case before her.

If the President doesn't take a decision in two weeks, it would consider granting him interim relief of releasing him for a few months, a Special Bench led by Justice BR Gavai said.

The Bench took note of the fact that no lawyer appeared on behalf of the Centre.

The Bench ordered the matter to be listed on December 5.
