All nambardars and sarpanches in villages of the district have been directed to extend full support to nodal and cluster officers in preventing farm fires in rural areas.

Faridkot Deputy Commissioner Vineet Kumar on Wednesday said it was the duty of sarpanches, panches and nambardars to make people aware about not burning crop residue and help nodal officers in preventing such incidents.

First of all, sarpanches, panches and nambardars should strictly avoid stubble burning in their own fields. After setting that example, they could ask farmers not to burn stubble in the fields, the DC said.

“We have asked sarpanches and nambardars to provide necessary support to nodal and cluster officers besides other higher officials out to monitor fire fires in villages,” he said.
