Pradesh Congress Committee chief and Ludhiana MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring today sparked a controversy by claiming that SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and his family are leading Akal Takht.

Later Apologises to Takht

I respect Akal Takht and bow before it. I humbly seek apology for my statement, which was not meant to disrespect the Akal Takht Jathedar. If Akal Takht pronounces any punishment on me, I will serve it. I bow my head seven times to seek apology. Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, PCC Chief

Just after his wife Amrita Warring filed her nomination papers for the Gidderbaha Assembly segment, Warring said, “The Akali Dal has scripted a story of not contesting the byelections. We respect Akal Takht as we are Sikhs. However, those leading Akal Takht, Sukhbir Singh Badal and his family members, have lost faith of the public. They announced their decision just one day before (the last day of filing the nominations) that they won’t contest the byelections...”

He said, “I ask why the SAD is not contesting the bypolls on all four seats. If Sukhbir is not contesting for being declared a ‘tankhaiya’ it’s fine. It shows that this is a scripted story... Akal Takht should pronounce its decision that the Akali Dal will not contest the elections for next three years.”

The PCC chief added, “Sukhbir made some phone calls to Akal Takht Jathedar to save him. The people know everything. This is a scripted story of SAD and the BJP. It will come out soon... I have been saying since 2019 that Badal cousins are united. Everybody says that Badal Sahib sent Manpreet to the Congress and then to the BJP.”
