SAD leader Bikram Majithia faces defamation suit
Rajbir Singh, Secretary-cum-Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has filed a defamation case against SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a local court for allegedly issuing defamatory, false and unauthenticated statements related to him on the social media.
The court has fixed January 18 as the day of hearing for preliminary evidence.
In the case filed under Sections 356, 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Rajbir Singh said Majithia levelled false allegations against him for transferring large sums of money through hawala transactions in foreign countries. The videos and posts on the social media related with the allegations caused harm to his reputation for which Majithia and other persons be tried and punished as per law, he added.
Earlier, the court had in October restrained Majithia and others from issuing defamatory, false, unverified/unauthenticated statements on social media accounts following an application filed by Rajbir Singh. The plaintiff had prayed that the defendants be directed to immediately remove from social media accounts the unverified, defamatory and false statement made by them as it caused immense damage to him and also the office of the CM.
