Rupnagar Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain and Senior Superintendent of Police Gulneet Singh Khurana on Saturday visited grain markets of Bharatgarh, Agampur and Kiratpur to oversee paddy procurement in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that 98 per cent of paddy had been procured in district so far and Rs 171.45 crore had been transferred in the bank accounts of farmers.

Officials of all procurement agencies have been ordered to ensure that the lifting of paddy from all markets is done by this evening. “I am personally keeping an eye on the lifting process,” he added.

Reviewing the purchase of paddy in Kiratpur and Bharatgarh, the DC talked to the farmers and said earlier there was issues regarding the lifting but now allotment had been made to 31 shellers. SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana said there was law and order situation anywhere and the procurement process was being carried out smoothly.
