Rs 6.5 cr sanitation drive launched
The district administration launched an intensive programme to enhance the water supply and sanitation services of 176 villages on Tuesday.
Officers of various departments were advised to ensure that grants worth Rs 6.50 crore would be utilised under the second phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission to enable a dignified life for the rural population of Malerkotla.
DC Pallavi said the senior functionaries of the government were sensitised about the need to successfully execute projects under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
The meeting was held under the supervision of ACP Gurmit Kumar Bansal.
The ACP advised the personnel to coordinate with sarpanches and panches of various villages, to attain the Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus status for the district.
Bansal said the plans had already been drafted for the construction of 268 lavatories at the cost of Rs 40.20 lakh. The ACP added that community sanitary complexes would also be established at the cost of Rs 86 lakh at 62 villages.
Further, Executive Engineer Gurvinder Singh Dhindsa stated that projects worth Rs 1.16 crore had been drafted for the management of solid waste in rural areas along with projects worth Rs 3.59 crore for the disposal of liquid waste.
