The power supply to Mubarak Manzil Mahal has been snapped due to non-payment of electricity bill to the tune of Rs 2 lakh.

Officials of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited said power connection in the name of Begum Munawwar-ur-Nisa, who died at the age of 103 years on October 27 last year without leaving a legal successor, had been disconnected due to pending electricity bills. Perusal of records revealed that an amount of Rs 2,07,238 was supposed to be paid according to a bill issued on October 11.

Executive Engineer Harwinder Singh Dhiman said though the power supply had been discontinued, he wasn’t sure about the pending dues.

Meanwhile, the administration has initiated a process to transfer Begum Munawwar-ur-Nisa’s movable and immovable property in the name of the Punjab Government. Besides the mahal worth crores, Begum Munawwar-ur-Nisa has a fixed deposit of Rs 1.20 crore.

Malerkotla SDM Harbans Singh said the meeting that had been earlier called on November 5 has now been rescheduled for November 7.

Though the authorities didn’t cite any reason behind the postponement of yesterday’s scheduled meeting, the Department of Cultural Affairs Archeology and Museums failed to send their representative in the meeting.

Modalities for transferring ownership of the property in the name of Punjab Government would be discussed during the meeting, said officials.

Director Department of Cultural Affairs, Archeology and Museums Punjab Government, Senior Superintendent of Police Malerkotla, Executive Engineers Public Works Department Malerkotla and Executive Engineer Municipal Council Malerkotla had been advised about the new date, said the SDM.
