Rs 1-cr drug money seized in Amritsar
Amritsar, July 28
The counter-intelligence (CI) wing of the Punjab Police on Sunday seized Rs 1.07 crore drug money from two operatives of foreign-based drug modules being run by notorious drug traffickers Gurjant Singh, alias Bholu, and Kinderbir Singh, alias Sunny Dyal.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said their two operatives arrested by the police were identified as Dilbagh Singh of Lohka village and Kamaldeep Singh of Patti in Tarn Taran. The police also seized a cash counting machine and two mobile phones from their possession besides impounding a car in which they were travelling.
Giving details, he said the Amritsar CI received specific intelligence inputs that Gurjant Bholu and Sunny Dyal were running an organised drug trafficking and illegal weapon distribution racket across the border state. They had tasked their operatives to collect the drug money, which would be routed through hawala.
Following this, the CI nabbed its operatives from a rented accommodation on the Fatehgarh Churian road. Preliminary probe revealed that they were in touch with Bholu and Dyal via encrypted social media platforms and were sending the drug money to the tune of Rs 1 crore to them using hawala route.
The DGP said both Bholu and Dyal had several criminal cases against them and probe was on to identify their backward and forward linkages.
