Punjab Government has decided to change the top administrators of Government Medical College (GMC) and Rajindra Hospital over rising number of COVID cases in the hospital —a development that comes amid escalating coronavirus cases in the state and district.
The decision came a week after Punjab Minister for Medical Education OP Soni’s visit to the hospital with principal secretary DK Tiwari. Soni said the rising number of COVID deaths in the hospital was a matter of particular concern.
“I had personally visited the college and Hospital last week, and found that its administration lax,” he said.
Rajindra Hospital has recorded 482 COVID deaths so far—225 of which are from Patiala and the rest from other parts of the state.
In the meantime, Dr Rajan Singla of the Anatomy Department has been appointed as GMC Principal and DR HS Rekhi of the Surgery Department will take over as the medical superintendent of the Hospital. Dr RPS Sibia of the department of medicines will be vice-principal.
