Despite the challenges and disruptions caused by the Ukraine conflict, the aspiration to study abroad for an MBBS degree remains strong among students from Punjab. The trend continues to gain momentum as students seek quality medical education at affordable prices outside India.

Several factors contribute to the enduring appeal of studying MBBS abroad, such as, affordable tuition fees in countries like Russia, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Philippines.

Moreover, many foreign medical universities are recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The admission process in these countries is often less competitive than in India, where securing a seat in a government medical college is extremely challenging.

The conflict in Ukraine has indeed caused disruptions for students who were studying there. However, it has also highlighted the need for careful consideration when choosing a study destination.

Harpreet Singh, a prospective medical student from Bathinda, said, “The situation in Ukraine was unfortunate, but it has made us more cautious. We are now looking at multiple countries.”

With Ukraine being less viable, students are increasingly considering other countries that offer similar benefits like Russia, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Armenia ,Philippines, China and Bangladesh.

Parmeet Singh, an educational consultant, said, “We are seeing a steady stream of inquiries from students wanting to pursue MBBS abroad. Our role is to guide them to make informed decisions and ensure their chosen institutions are accredited and recognised.”
