Punjab Police to enhance use of digital eye to curb crime
The Punjab Police is set to enhance CCTV surveillance at crime and drug trafficking hotspots. This initiative follows a comprehensive review of law enforcement strategies during a state-level meeting at the PAP Complex here.
DGP Gaurav Yadav emphasised the importance of establishing CCTV control rooms at district and subdivisional levels to enable real-time monitoring of identified hotspots. The decision comes after a three-year mapping of crime and drug sale points across Punjab.
The meeting, attended by senior officials and specialised police units, reviewed the performance of Punjab’s 28 police districts. DGP Yadav highlighted the need to curb petty crimes like extortion, snatching, theft, and burglary. He directed field officers to take strict action against drug suppliers, including using Section 68F of the NDPS Act to freeze properties obtained through illegal activities.
