Punjab accepts aberration in probe against MLAs
Chandigarh, July 19
The state has acknowledged aberration before the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the investigation of “old cases” against the sitting and former MPs and MLAs. In all, 48 FIRs were still at the stage of investigation, the high court was told.
As the case came up for resumed hearing before the Bench of Justice Augustine George Masih and Justice Lalit Batra, a status report by way of affidavit by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Litigation, Bureau of Investigation, was placed before it.
The state counsel submitted that most of the cases under the investigation were of this year. “He, however, acknowledges that there is an aberration as far as the old cases are also concerned. He further states that he would file a detailed status report as to the stage of the investigation and the period which is likely to be taken for presenting challan in the court,” the Bench added.
The amicus curiae or the friend of the court, senior advocate RS Khosla, pointed out that the stage of trials had not been mentioned in the annexure containing details of the cases where the investigation had been completed and challan presented.
“The counsel for the state acknowledges this deficiency and prays for some time to submit the details also,” the Bench added.
