With 54 per cent voting percentage recorded till 5 pm, the Barnala bypoll ended peacefully today.

Yesterday, a person was arrested by the Barnala police with around Rs 7 lakh and a weapon. Barnala Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Satvir Singh said they had arrested Harinder Singh, a resident of Bathinda, with Rs 7.58 lakh and a pistol yesterday evening.

He said a case had been registered against Harinder under Sections 223 and 173 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and under the Arms Act. The DSP added that Harinder was released on bail as the offences were bailable.
