Malerkotla, August 26

Krishna Janmashtami celebrations in Malerkotla were a bit different this time as police officials and a large number of social activists celebrated the day with children in slums and orphanages along with people at old age homes. Sweets, cooked food, fruits and toys were distributed by volunteers to children in slum areas.

The residents of slum areas in the city as well as surrounding localities hailed the move of the administration and the police.

Malerkotla SSP Gagan Ajit Singh said cops supervised by Kuldeep Singh, Davinder Singh Sandhu and Manavjit Singh Sidhu, DSPs at Malerkotla, Amargarh and Ahmedgarh, had visited slums, hostels, orphanages and old age homes to celebrate the festival.

A social activist in the Delhi Gate area, Arvind Bhardwaj, appreciated the efforts of the police department officials in reaching out to those less privileged residents who hesitate to visit temples and other religious places during festivals.
