Even though the District Magistrate banned the sale and use of pregabalin capsules last month, they are being prescribed, sold, and used by unregistered medical practitioners and drug traffickers across the border district.
Abohar Anti-Narcotic Cell Assistant Sub-Inspector Manjit Singh said a case against Gurdeep Singh, alias Deepu, a resident of Dhani Bashesharnath, has been registered under Sections 318 (4) 323 BNS (420, 88 IPC) at the city-2 police station. He said there were reports that the suspect had been selling Pregabalin capsules and tablets by impersonating a doctor. The sub-inspector said a police team stopped a car and seized 15,000 Pregabalin 300 mg capsules from him, and the vehicle has been impounded too.
In another incident, city-1 police Assistant Inspector Amrik Singh nabbed Jaidev of Nihal Khera village, who allegedly sold drugs and intoxicant capsules under the guise of selling cotton cake and feed at his shop. The assistant inspector said the police seized 7,000 Pregabalin 300 mg capsules and 100 tablets of Tramadol from him. The police said a case was registered under Sections 22-61-85 of the NDPS against the suspect.
