Police foil liquor smuggling bid, seize 700 boxes in Sriganganagar
The police claimed to have foiled an attempt to smuggle 700 boxes of liquor from Punjab to Rajasthan. The consignment, loaded onto a truck was intercepted on National Highway 62 this evening.
SP Gaurav Yadav said the truck was stopped near Raziasar on suspicion. He said the trailer, which appeared to be carrying plastic bags of filter gravel, was found to be concealing 700 boxes of English liquor.
He said the total value of the seized liquor was estimated to be around Rs 60 lakh. He added the driver of the truck, Dalu Ram (21), a resident of Sarnu Panji in Barmer, was arrested.
SP Yadav stated Dalu Ram is also accused of smuggling 8,400 bottles of English liquor in 700 boxes from Punjab to Gujarat. He said a case has been registered against him under the Excise Act and the truck trailer has been seized.
The police are currently interrogating Dalu Ram to determine where he sourced the liquor in Punjab and where he was supposed to deliver it in Gujarat. — OC
