Sangrur police create awareness on drug abuse

To create awareness on drug abuse among the people, especially youngsters, Sangrur SP (Investigations) Navreet Singh Virk has held several meetings with the villagers.
A couple of days ago, Virk had met residents of Badrukhan village and told them about harmful effects of drugs. He said he had been told by locals that 11 youths of Badrukhan village were addicted to drugs.
He directed the in-charge of the Badrukhan police post to ensure their treatment at a drug de-addiction centre.
Besides, Virk also held a meeting with residents of Dhaliwal Wass Jakhepal village. He added that some children in the age group of 12 to 18 years were hooked to intoxicating pills, which they purchased from medical stores situated in Cheema village.
He said Cheema SHO had been instructed to investigate the matter and take stern action against the guilty.
The SP urged the parents to keep a vigil on their wards and encourage them take up sports. Several locals informed Virk about drug peddlers in their respective areas.
