Ahead of the winters, the Fazilka police, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), held a meeting with border area villagers and members of village defence committees (VDCs) in the area of Joint Check post JCP Sadiqi near the International Border in a bid to check smuggling of narcotics from across the fence and to instil a feeling of safety among farmers.

Notably, during the winters, the infiltration bid increased rapidly, and the forces had to put in extra efforts to check the smuggling of drugs and arms.

Fazilka SSP Varinder Singh Brar, who headed the meeting, said the villagers were made aware of how to check the smuggling effectively. He said they were asked to be vigilant. “Besides this, other key problems, including land disputes, challenges in farming, and drug trafficking, were taken up in the meeting,” said the SSP.

Brar said Punjab police and BSF officials met the members of VDCs of 14 villages and assured them that their grievances and feedback would be addressed.
