PAU honours Abohar-based farmer for crop diversification

Says will prepare bales from paddy straw

Gurpreet Singh, a farmer of Pattisadiq village in Abohar, was recently honoured for crop diversification, pesticide-free farming, rainwater harvesting and dairy farming at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU).

Gurpreet said he had taken these measures to address several issues related with farming.

He added that he had constructed 100x200 foot tank at his farm for rainwater harvesting. “When canal water is not available during the peak season, I use stored water. It helps in making efficient use of water,” said Gurpreet, adding that he had received a subsidy of Rs 3 lakh from the Punjab Government for the water reservoir project.

He said to protect environment, he would prepare bales from the paddy straw and also use it in his orchard instead of setting it on fire.

Gurpreet added that he would sow wheat directly with happy seeder.
