Chandigarh, July 1

The Vigilance Bureau (VB) has registered two FIRs and arrested three persons, including a patwari and a deed writer, on corruption charges following complaints on the anti-corruption helpline, said VB Chief Director Varinder Kumar here today.

Patwari Manavdeep Singh posted at Banga and his aide Navjot Kumar, alias Lavi, were arrested yesterday on the charge of accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 in lieu of registering “inteqal” of land transfer mutation.

The two have been booked under Sections 7 and 7-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

In another case, ASI Manjit Singh, posted at the Dugri police station in the Ludhiana Commissionerate, has been booked for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1,500 in lieu of manipulating certain things in the challan in connection with an old case against the complainant.

The ASI further demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 from the complainant. He has been booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The police officer is on the run.

In another case, the VB yesterday arrested deed writer Mukul Gupta in connection with a corruption case registered on June 10. He had allegedly accepted Rs 20,000 for the registry of a plot without an NOC.
