Patiala: Jail inmates clash, six hurt
Six inmates suffered injuries following a brawl inside the Patiala Central Jail on Wednesday. Two of the inmates have been admitted to Government Rajindra Hospital with critical injuries. Those undergoing treatment at the hospital have been identified as Somveer and Banti, who are from rival factions. Sources said four other inmates also sustained minor injuries. A senior jail official said they were investigating the matter.
Head Constable suspended
Muktsar: The police have suspended Head Constable Jagmeet Singh for allegedly misbehaving with a scribe on Sunday. Several social organisations came out in support of the scribe and blocked the road outside the Muktsar (City) police station on Wednesday. SP (Headquarters) Kanwalpreet Chahal announced that Jagmeet had been suspended. Thereafter, the protesters lifted the blockade.
PTI teachers block road
Muktsar: The Unemployed PTI Teachers’ Union on Wednesday blocked the Malout-Bathinda road in Gidderbaha. The protesters claimed that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had assured to give them jobs, but nothing has happened so far. “We took out a march in the town and made the public aware about the false promises of the state government,” the protesters said.
Woman run over by train
Fazilka: A woman came under the train while crossing the railway track in Fazilka on Wednesday. Sources said the deceased, Reshma, was returning home after procuring milk. Pinki, daughter-in-law of Reshma, said her mother-in-law had gone to bring milk from across the railway track. On her way back, she failed to spot the train.
Teachers demand pay hike
Muktsar: The faculty of Malout Institute of Management and Information Technology has been observing a one-hour protest since Monday against non-implementation of the 7th Central Pay Commission. “The faculty of all government technical universities and colleges demand immediate implementation of the 7th Central Pay Commission,” they said.
