The use of Chinese strings results in injuries or deaths of not only humans but also birds and animals. Sometimes, the strings get enmeshed into the electric cables, resulting in electric shocks.

A year ago, Satnam Singh (19) and Ramandeep Kaur (22) of Kotkapura lost their lives after the Chinese string came into contact with 11 KV overhead electric line.

Despite, officially there is complete prohibition on the sale of this string but the sale of this string is booming due to low cost and high profit.

“The string is popular among kids. It causes severe injuries to motorists as well as kills of birds and animals every year,” said Sandeep Arora, convener, Society for Environment and Ecological Resources (SEER), which organises camps in schools to raise awareness about the ill-effects of these strings.
