Notice to Paramraj Singh Umranangal on Punjab’s plea
Chandigarh, September 23
Around seven months after the appearance of Punjab Police officer Paramraj Singh Umranangal before a Faridkot court in connection with sacrilege and police firing matter was deferred, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued a notice on an application moved by the state for recalling the order.
Justice GS Sandhawalia also fixed October 10 as the next date for hearing in the matter. In his petition argued by senior advocates APS Deol, Gurminder Singh Kharbanda, Himmat Singh Deol, Jatinder Singh Gill and Vishal R Lamba, Umranangal was seeking the quashing of an FIR registered on August 7, 2018, for attempt to murder and other offences under Sections 307, 326, 324, 323, 341, 201, 218, 120-B and 34 of the IPC and the provisions of the Arms Act at Kotkapura police station.
Among other things, directions were also sought for quashing the entire investigation with regard to the petitioner on the ground that it was patently illegal, manifestly just and tainted by malafides. The Bench was told that the petitioner had also prayed that departmental inquiry should also be quashed and stayed. — TNS
