Abohar: Nominee kidnapped to prevent filing of papers
A candidate was approached by a woman to meet her before the filing of nomination in the panchayat election on Thursday, the last day of nominations. He and his cousin were beaten up allegedly by a dozen people on the way and kidnapped to prevent him from contesting the election. A case was registered at Amirkhas police station on Sunday in Fazilka district.
The police said that a case has been registered under Sections 140(3), 115, 351, 191 (3) and 190 of the BNS and 25, 27 of Arms Act. The suspects were identified as Kuldeep Kaur, Raj Kaur, Gurkirat Singh and Jagir Singh besides nine unidentified persons. Of them, Jagir Singh has been arrested.
Complainant Buta Singh of Basti Sham Singh Wali village said that he and his cousin Sukhjit Singh were stopped near a gurdwara on October 4 when they were going to meet Kuldeep Kaur over her phone call. The miscreants came out of three vehicles, beat them up, kidnapped and freed him in the afternoon when the scheduled time for filing of nomination was over.
