Anti-terror federal probe agency NIA on Tuesday said it has arrested two absconding accused persons, belonging to Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF), in connection with the killing of Comrade Balwinder Singh Sandhu, a Shaurya Chakra awardee in Tarn Taran district of Punjab.
Officials in the agency said that NIA sleuths arrested Harbhinder Singh alias Pinder, resident of Jeobala, and Navpreet Singh alias Nav, a resident of Jhamke, in Tarn Taran district of the state.
A senior NIA official said, “Investigation has revealed that absconding accused Navpreet Singh and Harbhinder Singh are close aides of charge sheeted accused Inderjit Singh alias Inder, who had conducted the reconnaissance of the target and were actively involved in the conspiracy of killing of Comrade Balwinder Singh Sandhu.”
The official further said that both the arrested accused were produced before NIA Special Court in Mohali today, which ordered to send them to the agency’s custody for four days for interrogation and further investigation in the case.
The case was initially registered by Punjab Police in Tarn Taran in connection with the murder of Comrade Balwinder Singh at his residence-cum-school in Bhikhiwind area of the district on October 16, 2020.
Later NIA took over the investigation in the case after registering the case on January 26, 2021.
