Nawanshahr grenade attack case solved, 3 nabbed
Chandigarh, April 18
The Punjab Police have solved the 2021 case of hand-grenade attack at the CIA Office, Nawanshahr, by busting a Pakistan-based terror module run by gangster Harvinder Singh, alias Rinda, with the arrest of its three operatives, said DGP VK Bhawra here on Monday.
On the intervening night of November 7 and 8, 2021, some unidentified persons had hurled a hand grenade at the CIA office with the intent to kill police officials. However, the officials present at the office had escaped unhurt.
Those arrested have been identified as Manish Kumar, alias Mani, alias Baba, a resident of Bains village, Nawanshahr; Ramandeep Singh, alias Jakhu, of Atta village in Goraya, Jalandhar; and Pardeep Singh, alias Bhatti, of Sahlon village, SBS Nagar. The police have also recovered a live hand grenade from the possession of the accused persons.
DGP Bhawra said after extensive investigation, the Counter-Intelligence wing and the Nawanshahr police arrested the three accused involved in the attack. During interrogation, Ramandeep confessed that he along with Manish had lobbed the grenade on Harvinder’s directions, claimed the DGP, adding Ramandeep had picked up two grenades from a location on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur road as guided by Harvinder.
Nawanshahr SSP Sandeep Kumar said while one P-80 hand grenade was used in the attack, the second, similar to the one used in the attack, was recovered on Ramandeep’s disclosure. Harvinder had struck a deal with Ramandeep for Rs 4 lakh to carry out the attack, he added. Harvinder, a gangster active in Punjab, Chandigarh, Maharashtra and Haryana, is a history-sheeter and wanted by the Punjab Police. Several sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act were added to the FIR registered against Harvinder on November 8, 2021. — TNS
