Muktsar, August 3
Despite a shortage of doctors at the local Civil Hospital, the lone eye surgeon posted here has been shifted to the Subdivisional Civil Hospital in Malout. Further, the joining orders of another eye surgeon have been issued for the Malout hospital.
Now, patients will either have to go to the Sub-Divisional Hospital at Malout or Gidderbaha as there is no eye surgeon left in the Muktsar hospital.
UNFAIR DECISION
It’s strange that the Muktsar Civil Hospital doesn’t have any eye specialist, whereas two doctors have been posted in Malout. I urge the state to look into the matter. — Dr SPS Brar, social activist
Sources in the Health Department said there used to be a heavy footfall of eye patients at the Muktsar hospital. “The state should have given a replacement of the eye surgeon at Muktsar before the transfer,” they added.
Dr Ranju Singla, CMO, Muktsar, said, “The eye surgeon posted here has been relieved and she is likely to join in Malout in a day or two. Also, another eye surgeon has been posted in Malout, but the doctor is yet to take charge.”
When asked whether the eye surgeon was transferred on the recommendation of Cabinet Minister Dr Baljit Kaur, also Malout MLA, the CMO said, “I can’t make a comment in this regard.”
Some patients said the government should review its decision. “Now, we will have to travel to Malout or Gidderbaha or visit some private hospital. A doctor must be posted in Muktsar too,” they said.
