With 170 cases (135 reported in September), Malout town is the worst-hit, followed by Gidderbaha town (68) and Muktsar town (9).

ADC (General) Rajdeep Kaur said: “The number of cases is higher than the last year. The health department has deployed 70 teams under the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme to detect and destroy dengue larvae. The cases are on the rise and without public support it is difficult to control the situation.” Dr Seema Goyal, district epidemiologist, has penned a poem to spread awareness among public, which is recited by a little girl of a private school. — TNS
