MP objects to auction of land for EWS housing

Patiala MP Dr Dharamavira Gandhi condemned the Punjab Government move to auction the land for economically weaker section (EWS) housing in private projects.

In a press release issued here today, Dr Gandhi said through this step, the government was running away from the responsibility of providing cheap affordable housing to the economic weaker sections. Dr Gandhi said he, along with socio-political activist Satnam Dao, had been consistently fighting for the past 10 years for the cause of EWS over their claim on affordable housing as reserved for them in the private projects.

He urged the state government to withdraw its decision and go ahead with the original plan of allocation of land for EWS. Dr Gandhi expressed doubts over the new plan of state government to provide houses for EWS at other places because such a decision in the past had always harmed the interests of poor. “Due to wrong policies of the government, Punjab is heading towards an economic crash and bankruptcy and is trying to raise money for its day-to-day functioning through such decisions,” he stated.
