The Punjab Vigilance Bureau today arrested a motor vehicle inspector of Patiala and his associate while accepting a bribe of Rs 14,000.

The suspects were identified as Gurmeet Singh and his aide Anil, a resident of Patiala.

The VB started that the suspects were nabbed following a complaint by Dinesh Kumar, a resident of Patiala city working as a private document writer in the District Administrative Complex, Patiala.

The complainant had approached the VB and alleged that the inspector had been demanding a bribe through his agent Anil for clearing the fitness of vehicles and passing him in a test for issuing driving licence.

After a preliminary inquiry into the complaint, a VB team laid a trap and arrested the duo accepting a bribe of Rs 14,000 from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses. The bribe money was seized.

A case has been registered against the two suspects under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
