Even as the number of vehicles using FASTags has increased by nearly 33 per cent in the last couple of weeks, the commuters using cash lanes have to wait up to 15 minutes at the Solakhian toll plaza on the Chandigarh road near here.

Of the five lanes on the each side of the plaza, two lanes have been reserved for those preferring to pay at the counter only.

While there was no waiting for FASTag users in any of the three lanes, a large number of vehicles remained stranded in long queues waiting in the cash lanes.

The situation, however, improved today as the toll plaza authorities deployed workers who did not allow non-FASTag users to enter wrongly in the designated lanes.

Administrative officer at the toll plaza Uma Shankar Ayyar said the number of people passing through the FASTag lanes had increased substantially.

Earlier, of over 26,000 vehicles passing the toll plaza daily, merely 4,000 used to have FASTags, he said, adding that today over 8,500 vehicles passed through the FASTag lanes.
