Monkey who attacked 70 persons tranquilised in Rupnagar

A team of Rupnagar Forest and Wildlife Department caged a dangerous monkey who reportedly attacked several residents during the morning and evening hours here.

The simian had recently attacked a minor girl and left her seriously injured, following which a trap was laid.

Forest officials said the simian had earlier attacked around 70 residents, mostly female. They said the monkey would escape into the forest area after attacking people.

DFO Kulraj Singh Randhawa said the forest team nabbed the fully grown male after much efforts. A team of Block Officer Sukhbir Singh, Range Officer Narinderpal Singh and forest guards Jasbir Singh, Jaspreet Singh and Gurmukh Singh was deployed to catch the menacing monkey.

Although curbing the monkey menace is the duty of the civic body the Forest Department officials had to step in as the monkey was getting aggressive regularly.

“It tried to attack the forest guard today but was tranquilised well in time near the railway station,” said Randhawa.
