Mohlai, July 24
The District and Sessions Court, Mohali, today allowed an application seeking transfer of the Multani abduction case from the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Monika Goyal to the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajnish Garg. Former Chandigarh police officials Jagir Singh and Anokh Singh are among the accused in the case.
Booked for abduction
On May 6, an FIR was registered against former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and 11 other UT cops, including the then inspectors Jagir Singh and Anokh Singh, for abducting Balwant Singh Multani.
District and Sessions Judge Rajinder Singh Rai has now asked the prosecution and defence to appear before Rajnish Garg’s court on July 30 to continue the hearing of the case.
The application for the transfer of the case was filed after Monika Goyal’s court allowed interim bail to former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini in anticipation of the SIT adding Section 302 of the IPC to the earlier FIR.
Palwinder Singh Multani, complainant in the Balwant Singh Multani case, had sought the transfer of the case hearing of the two co-accused cops.
In the previous hearing, Sartej Singh Narula, special public prosecutor, supported by public prosecutor Sanjiv Batra, took the plea that recently, the court had transferred the case hearing against former DGP Saini from the court of Monika Goyal to the court of Rajnish Garg after which the latter, on July 10, dismissed the interim bail granted to Saini. However, giving a relief to Saini, the court directed the police to give three-day prior notice to him in case Section 302 or any other criminal section was added to the FIR.
