In response to the rising risk of road accidents caused by haze and poor visibility due to stubble burning, the Moga administration has developed a comprehensive plan to improve traffic management and enhance public safety.

During a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal, who also serves as the Committee's Chairperson, invited Des Raj, Joint Director (Traffic) of the Punjab Road Safety Council, to help devise a plan for better road safety.

While reviewing current traffic arrangements, the Deputy Commissioner directed strict enforcement of traffic laws and the improvement of infrastructure to ensure safer roads.

A significant concern raised by the traffic police was the high number of accidents involving drivers under the influence of alcohol. As a result, the DC has mandated that habitual "Drink and Drive" offenders may face permanent revocation of their driving licenses. Legal action would also be taken against individuals who damage public property, such as breaking sidewalks. Informants who report such violations would be rewarded.

Additional safety measures include halting unlicensed buses operating in the district, removing roadside vegetation and repairing damaged traffic lights and electric poles. Vehicles must be equipped with working headlights, parking lights and fog lights in preparation for the upcoming foggy season. Unauthorised roadside parking would be prohibited.

The Municipal Corporation has been tasked with attaching reflectors to stray cattle and the Health Department would conduct monthly eye exams for drivers.

The Deputy Commissioner also instructed officials to identify and repair potholes and "black spots" on roads. SDMs and police officers have been directed to address any unresolved "hit and run" cases. Traffic police and other officials are encouraged to submit written suggestions to further improve traffic management and infrastructure.

This coordinated effort aims to reduce road accidents and ensure safer conditions for all road users in the district.
