MLA Vikramjit Chaudhary reviews development projects in Phillaur
In a focused effort to accelerate development in Phillaur, MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary held a detailed meeting with municipal council officials on Monday, stressing the need for swift action on ongoing development projects. He said any delays or negligence would not be tolerated and could lead to strict consequences for those responsible.
During the meeting, MLA Chaudhary reached out to the Local Government Minister, requesting his support to ensure no hindrances to the city’s development. The minister assured him there would be no obstacles moving forward.
After the meeting, MLA Chaudhary, along with officials, visited various wards to inspect the city’s cleanliness and sanitation systems. Raj Kumar Hans, the husband of the late councillor from Ward 10, raised concerns about the recurring sewage overflow on Purana Qila Road, especially during the rainy season. He recalled former MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh had secured Rs 50 lakh grant to address the problem by installing new sewer pipes. However, Hans expressed frustration that the project had stalled due to political interference following a change in state leadership. The main sewer lines remain unconnected, leaving the area vulnerable to flooding.
MLA Chaudhary reprimanded the officials for their inaction, emphasising that, as an elected representative, it was his duty to ensure a clean and healthy environment for Phillaur’s residents. He vowed to escalate the issue to higher authorities and ensure that negligent officers were held accountable.
Later, MLA Chaudhary visited the Phillaur railway station, where he was briefed by the station master on the progress of the ongoing modernisation efforts. Addressing mediapersons, he praised the legacy of former MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh, who had worked on the restoration of the Phillaur and Jalandhar Cantt railway stations, which were originally built during the British era. Chaudhary announced the newly renovated station, with state-of-the-art facilities, would be officially inaugurated on New Year’s Day.
The review meeting and site visits were attended by Councillors Rakesh Kalia, Ravi Kumar, Rajesh Roxy, former Councillors Dr Ashwani Ashu, Raj Kumar Hans, Krishna Kumar and others.
