Man electrocuted by illegal power line in Abohar village
A man was electrocuted after accidentally coming into contact with illegal barbed wires around a vegetable field in Dhaba Kokrian village, located 15 km from here, last night. The wires were reportedly connected to the power supply by neighbouring farmers. The body of the deceased has been placed in the mortuary at the Abohar Civil Hospital for an autopsy.
The victim, a 50-year-old labourer and father of three children, was returning home around 1 am after dropping his wife off at a nearby neighbour’s house. The neighbour’s pregnant daughter was about to give birth. While passing near the barbed wires, Gurbaksh Singh slipped on the muddy street, accidentally touching the wire and getting electrocuted.
His family quickly rushed him to a hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
This incident highlights a recurring issue in several villages, where farmers have illegally set up electrified wire fences around their fields, despite a ban by local authorities. Reports have indicated that such fences have caused numerous injuries and deaths to people and animals in Abohar and Balluana areas.
Gaura Singh, the victim’s brother, has called for strict action against those responsible for installing the dangerous wires. The Sadar police station is investigating the matter.
