The Waqf Board has alleged that a person who has been in illegal possession of the land, which had been earmarked for a graveyard, was carrying out mining illegally.

The Fazilka-based Executive Estate Officer of the Board had on August 23 informed the Arniwala police station that Joginder Singh of Tahliwala Bodla village was in illegal possession of Waqf Board land that existed in Khasra number 155 and had been earmarked for the graveyard. The board said no lease or rent deed was executed in favour of the occupant. They alleged that Joginder had been carrying out mining to earn money from the land illegally. The complainant said they feared mining could damage bones in the graveyard land.

The police said today a case had been registered under Section 303 of the BNS, 52(a) of the Waqf Act, and 21 of the Mining Act. They said Assistant Sub-Inspector Bhajan Dass had initiated an investigation into the case.
