Ludhiana records 40 incidents in 6 weeks
Ludhiana district has reported 40 farm fire incidents since September 15. The maximum 13 incidents were recorded last week only.
As per the official data, on October 22, Ludhiana recorded two farm fires, followed by four on October 23, zero on October 24, one on October 25, five on October 26 and one on October 27. However, there is a huge decline in the farm fire incidents in the district compared to the last two years of the same period between October 22 to October 27 in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
The data shows that from October 22 to October 27 in 2022, the district saw 31, 30, 77,19, 43 and 64 farm fires, respectively. While in 2023 from October 22 to October 27, the district recorded five,10,42, 16, 24 and 31 stubble burning cases, respectively.
The data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reveals that the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the city on October 23 was 207, which falls under the poor air quality bracket. This means that prolonged exposure to the air can cause breathing discomfort to most people. Looking at the data since June, it’s clear that the AQI in Ludhiana has been fluctuating, but the last time it exceeded 207 was on June 20, when it was recorded at 211. In October, the AQI was the highest on October 23, with a reading of 207, and on October 19, it was 183. However, in October, AQI mostly remain moderate and satisfactory.
As many as 29 FIRs have been registered in the Ludhiana district this season.
