Loudspeakers test nerves of students appearing for board exams in Abohar
Abohar, February 22
Though the Punjab School Education Board’s (PSEB) annual exams started last week, noise pollution due to loudspeakers is affecting thousands of students.
According to information, around 100 religious sites have installed four to five loudspeakers whose sound can be heard upto several kilometres.
Numerous parents along with senior AAP leader Raghuveer Bhakar met the management of a religious place and urged to use loudspeakers at a lower volume.
The administration was also informed, but the situation went back to square one within three days.
Parents said several examination centres had been set up near religious places. They added that high decibel sound could be heard even during the exam hours.
Locals said not just places of worships, even DJ sets were being used at ceremonial events without permission.
Recently, the police had booked eight residents of Indira Nagari under Sections 323, 341, 506 and 149 of the IPC for assaulting a person alleging that he had asked the DJ to stop playing music.
Complainant Mann Singh of Sukhera Basti said people were dancing when the DJ stopped playing music during a wedding ceremony at Ram Bhawan.
Mann said as he was returning home, the accused thrashed him suspecting that he had asked the DJ to stop playing the music.
Residents said the administration should restrict the use of loudspeakers as long as exams don’t end.
