KVK at Sangrur gets best in Punjab award
The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Sangrur of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) received the Best KVK of Punjab-2024 award. It was awarded on the basis of its contributions for the welfare of the farming and rural communities and achievements in the field of agriculture and allied activities.
The Associate Director (Training), KVK, Kheri, Sangrur, Dr Mandeep Singh, said the award was given to the Sangrur KVK during the Annual Zonal Workshop of KVKs-2024, organised by the ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone-1 in Ludhiana. He said the Sangrur KVK had won the award out of 22 KVKs in the state.
The award was presented to Dr Mandeep Singh by the chairman of the Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB), Dr Sanjay Kumar. An extension publication of the KVK Sangrur on farm machinery for in-situ crop residue management was also released during a technical session on agricultural engineering of the workshop.
Dr Mandeep Singh said to meet the current agricultural challenges of the Sangrur district, the KVK was focused on the cultivation of short-duration rice varieties, promotion of in-situ crop residue management, crop diversification, soil health management, direct seeding of rice, integrated nutrient management, integrated weed management, integrated disease and pest management.
He said the Sangrur KVK was committed to providing the quality seeds, farm literature, need-based agro-advisories, and other utility services of the PAU to farmers.
