Jalandhar police bust inter-state fake degree racket, two arrested
In a major crackdown on an inter-state fake degree racket, the Jalandhar police have arrested two persons and seized 196 fake degrees and various other materials used in the operation.
Acting on a tip-off regarding a gang dealing in fake educational certificates, the police apprehended Pushkar Goel, a resident of Green Park in Jalandhar, originally from Kapurthala, and Varinder Kumar of Mota Singh Nagar, Jalandhar. The police seized a total of 196 fake degrees, 53 stamps, 16 passports, six laptops, three printers, a stamp-making machine and eight mobile phones from the duo.
ADCP 2 Aditya said an FIR had been lodged under several sections at the Sadar Jalandhar police station. The gang is said to have issued fake degrees for various courses, including engineering, medical and management programmes, targeting students across multiple states such as Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
He said further investigations had brought a wide network of fake degree suppliers to light. He said two cases were already pending against the prime accused, Goel.
