Islamia schools celebrate centenary of establishment
Islamia Senior Secondary School, managed by the Punjab Wakf Board in Chandigarh, celebrated its 100th anniversary. The event brought together over 200 alumni, who were honoured for their contributions to various fields.
The celebration featured a vibrant cultural programme and an exhibition showcasing working models that illustrated advancements in science, technology and culture. The Malerkotla MLA, Dr Mohammad Jamil Ur Rehman, served as the chief guest, while Dr Mohammad Aslam, chief executive of the Punjab Wakf Board, chaired the event. The distinguished educationist and administrator, Prof Manzoor Ahmedgarh, was the guest of honour.
Notable figures such as Amjad Ali, chairman of the Hara Educational Trust, former Sports Minister Nusrat Ikram Khan Bagga and former state Education Minister Chaudhary Abdul Gaffar also recognised students for their achievements in education, health and sports.
In their speeches, Rehman, Aslam, and Amjad Ali reflected on the school’s journey and growth over the past century. Amjad Ali reminisced about the school’s early days, recalling how students would collect goat skins during Eid to cover basic expenses, including teachers’ salaries. He noted that the institute now educates over 2,700 students across six branches.
In his address, MLA Jamil Ur Rehman praised the collaborative efforts of teachers, parents, and students that transformed the region’s educational landscape. He highlighted the progress from a time when quality educational institutions were scarce to the present, where every child has access to well-equipped schools in the city. The centenary celebration not only commemorated the school’s rich history but also reaffirmed its commitment to quality education for future generations.
