Interstate gang of cyber criminals busted, 2 held
With the arrest of two persons from Guwahati in Assam, the Punjab Police today claimed to have busted an interstate gang of cyber criminals who duped Vardhman Industries’ head SP Oswal of about Rs 7 crore.
According to the police, two accused namely Atnu Chaudhry and Anand Kumar Chaudhary, both residents of Guwahati, have been arrested and about Rs 5.25 crore recovered from them. Efforts are on to arrest seven more persons in connection with the case.
This is the second major fraud committed with an industrialist over the past about 15-20 days. Earlier, a gang had duped renowned businessman Rajneesh Ahuja of Rs 1 crore.
Posing as CBI officials, the cyber criminals reportedly sent fake arrest warrants to SP Oswal and asked him to deposit Rs 7 crore in their accounts. By the time Oswal realised that they were frauds, it was too late. He brought the matter to the notice of the police.
Although two arrests have been made, seven more persons, including a women, are said to be involved in the case. The police have seized six ATM cards, three mobile phones and Rs 5.25 crore from the suspects.
