Health Dept conducts checks for dengue larvae in Phagwara
The Health and Family Welfare Department has initiated a drive, ‘Every Friday, a strike against dengue’ under which teams conducted thorough checks for dengue larvae today in different areas including Hadiabad, Hakupura, Civil Hospital and surrounding areas, as well as various health facilities in Kapurthala district.
The inspection teams examined sources of water and destroyed any larvae found, aiming to eliminate potential breeding sites.
They also promoted adherence to health guidelines among residents to curb the spread of dengue.
Civil Surgeon Dr Rajeev Parashar emphasised that the Health Department is committed to preventing dengue and other vector-borne diseases through targeted action.
“Each Friday, teams are dispatched to urban and rural areas to locate and eliminate dengue larvae and raise public awareness,” he stated. Dr Parashar explained that dengue mosquitoes breed in clean, stagnant water and cause symptoms like severe headache, high fever, pain behind the eyes, fatigue and muscle pain, hence the nickname “breakbone fever”.
Dr Parashar urged people to immediately contact nearby government health centres if they observe symptoms of dengue, where testing and treatment are available free of charge.
The Civil Surgeon also advised against self-medication for suspected dengue cases.
The teams actively conducted awareness activities in health facilities and schools throughout Kapurthala district as part of the initiative.
