Following a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Member of Parliament and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring alleging leakage of sewage in parts of Muktsar Sahib and Gidderbaha, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the state government to take remedial steps.

Pointing out that the PIL raises a public issue, a Division Bench comprising Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Anil Kshetarpal directed the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Public Health Department, Muktsar Sahib, and the municipal council to take appropriate steps to rectify the problem, if it exists.

The Bench also asked the departments to file a compliance report and a reply, if any, to the averments made in the PIL, when the case comes up for hearing on September 20.
