The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wedneday issued a notice to the State of Punjab through chief secretary on a petition seeking the seeking removal of Raj Kamal Chaudhari from State Election Commissioner’s post on the ground that he was disentitled to hold the post as he was now retired IAS officer.
The Bench of Justice Vinod S Bhardwaj also issued notice to the principal secretary and Chaudhari on the petition filed by advocate HC Arora. The court also fixed January 22, 2025, as the next date of hearing in the matter.
Arora contended that Section 4 of the Punjab State Election Commission Act, 1994, makes it clear that a retired government servant cannot be appointed to the post of State Election Commissioner.

His further contention was that Chaudhari – a retired IAS officer – could not as such hold the post of State Election Commissioner.
